Counsellor Training
WellElder provides training related to positive ageing and counselling and supporting older clients.
We have developed training packages in response to stakeholder needs and interest: we have facilitated group training sessions for staff in a rest home on working with “difficult” residents; we have developed training for another rest home on the transition for new residents into a rest home and responding to the residents’ emotional needs.
As the only NZ specialist counselling service for older people, we are keen to share our skills and experience. We welcome opportunities to contribute to counselling training and professional development about working with older clients.
Supervision and Consulting
We provide supervision to counsellors and other professionals working with older clients. This can be for regular supervision or consultation about a particular case or situation.
Other information
We want to support the development of counselling for older New Zelanders in other centres. If you are considering setting up a counselling service, we will share with you information about WellElder’s development and our policies, systems and procedures. We will discuss organisational issues and answer queries by phone or by arrangement in Wellington.
